This term we have been exploring "our bodies" through taking care of ourselves and using the five senses.
We have had some visitors, Susie the dental lady, Mr Anderson the Optician and nurses Hazel and Michelle.
Through various practical activities such as brushing teeth, bathing dolls and dressing up the children have gained and shared experiences. One child said vegetables are good for you, another talked about the need to sleep so you can rest.
Exploring the five senses incorporated a lot of learning and fun. Tactile experiences such as hand painting, collage, feely bags/ materials, texture books, dough, spaghetti in the water tray encouraged the children to describe. One child said the spaghetti was "spikey".
We went on a listening walk around the school and heard some very interesting noises.
"Eyes are very important to look", said one of the children, so we did very colourful pictures, lookes through different aids such as glasses, binoculars and tubes, made binoculars and played games concentrating on looking.
The children explored tasting and smelling using pieces of food and samples of different smells. One child didn't like the vinegar smell, another said the apples tasted sweet and crunchy.
